Havertz on target to snap Leverkusen’s losing run
Kai Havertz’s goal gave Bayer Leverkusen a 1-0 win over Mainz 05.
BERLIN: Germany international Kai Havertz scored a second-half winner in Bayer Leverkusen’s 1-0 win over Mainz 05 on Sunday to snap their three-game losing start to the Bundesliga season.
The 19-year-old was left with far too much space as he charged into the box to head in a cross in the 62nd minute.
Havertz, among the most promising talents of his generation in Germany, had also scored twice in their 3-2 Europa League win over Bulgaria’s Ludogorets on Thursday.
Leverkusen lost their opening three league games this season. Their first three points were enough to lift them out of last place and into 15th.

In the other game on Sunday, Eintracht Frankfurt will host out-of-form RB Leipzig, who have won just one of their three matches so far.
