CHICAGO: Chicago Bulls forward Lauri Markkanen injured his right elbow in practice and could be out up to two months, the team announced on Friday.

The second-year player sustained the injury on Thursday. The Bulls said an MRI revealed a high-grade lateral elbow sprain and that the injury will sideline him from six to eight weeks.

A Finland native, Markkanen was the #7 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft and was an All-Rookie First Team selection. The 21-year-old averaged 15.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 36.2 percent from 3-point range in 68 games, all starts, last season.

The Bulls will open the regular season on October 18 at Philadelphia.
