SHAH ALAM: Selangor head coach B Sathianathan praised his players’ fighting spirit after their 3-2 comeback win over PKNS FC in the last game of the Super League season at Shah Alam Stadium on Saturday.
PKNS had a bright start after Romel Morales scored the opener in the third minute.
But Sandro Da Silva levelled the score and an Ifedayo Olusegun Omosuyi brace gave the Red Giants the lead.
Tamirlan Kozubaev made things interesting by netting PKNS’ second goal in the 76th minute but Selangor held on for victory.
Sathianathan says his charges put up a good display despite missing a few key men due to injury.
“We controlled the game with the two set piece goals we scored, and we should have gotten more. But we lost our focus when we went up 3-1,” said the former national coach at the post-match press conference.
“However, I want to congratulate my players on the win.”
Sathianathan also praised his men for their hard work to earn a top-three finish in the league.
Meanwhile, PKNS coach K Rajagobal admitted their defeat was due to simple mistakes made by his defence, which led to Selangor scoring their goals.
“We scored very early on but our lack of focus cost us two goals and we conceded another in the second half,” said Rajagobal.
“We kept pressing forward and were rewarded with a second goal, but it was all too late.”
