Chan-Goh exit Japan Open at hands of familiar foes

Malaysia’s mixed-doubles pair Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying in action.

KUALA LUMPUR: Professional mixed-doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying’s run in the Japan Open was cut short in the semifinals as they fell to familiar foes Wang Yilyu-Huang Dongping of China on Saturday.

Chan-Goh, who are world No 5, failed to trouble their Chinese rivals losing 21-10, 21-6, and this comes just a week after the Rio Olympics silver medallists lost to the same pairing in the semifinals of the Indonesian Open.

Chan-Goh are looking to rack up more points to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics next year and their next tournament is the Thailand Open beginning on Tuesday.

They face India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Ashwini Ponnappa in the first round.
