We’re not being insensitive to haze, precautions taken, say MFL

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Football League (MFL) have denied claims they are being insensitive by going ahead with Malaysia Cup matches despite the haze.
MFL, in a statement, noted they are always taking precautions to avoid haze-related incidents that could jeopardise the reputation of the country’s oldest football tournament.
“Among others, we have a cooling break during the match where players would be given three minutes in the 35th and 70th minutes.
“MFL are also planning to get the Air Pollutant Index (API) tools to enable API readings to be made directly at venues,” MFL chief executive officer Kevin Ramalingam said in a statement today.
Under existing rules, MFL explained, each competing team in any tournament under their management, including the Malaysia Cup, is required to provide the services of a doctor who not only provides treatment to players but also gives advice on the haze situation.
MFL said they were ready to postpone matches if haze at venues was found to be harmful to the health of officials, players, stadium personnel and spectators.
