BUDAPEST:
Gretchen Walsh continued her outstanding form at the World Short Course Championships in Budapest today as she broke the world record for the 100m butterfly.

Competing in the heats, the 21-year-old American clocked 53.24s, smashing the previous record of 54.05s set by Canada’s Margaret Mac Neil in 2022.

It was Walsh’s fifth record since the start of the week and her fourth in the individual events.

Walsh got the competition off to a flying start, breaking the 50m butterfly record twice in the same day on Tuesday, before helping the American women’s relay to win and set the record in the 4x100m freestyle relay.

Yesterday, she also set the fastest 100m medley time in history, bettering her own record.
