KUALA LUMPUR: The Student Representative Council (MPP) at all public universities will be given full freedom in determining their own leadership mould, without the involvement of the university’s administration beginning this year.

The education ministry, in a statement today, said as such the process and methods of electing the MPP and the campus election (PRK) would also be reviewed.

“The PRK Coordination Meeting, involving the Higher Education Department, Student Affairs Office and the Legal Officers of Public Universities, today decided that the method of implementing the PRK will be reviewed to enable the students to handle the election process in a transparent and independent manner.

“MPP will bring about autonomous sentiment with full freedom of expression, to indulge in politics or even in activities without the involvement of the university’s management,” the statement added.

All public universities are free to implement their respective PRK after making several necessary amendments in line with the initiative for independent, fair and open elections.
