If you’re bored of the usual, overpriced coffee shops around Shah Alam and appreciate more affordable, yet still delicious, grub – read on.

Behold, Unit 23: a cafe which is also a vape shop under the name “Vaporwerks”. It’s also one of the few cafes in Shah Alam selling Nasi Goreng + Telur Mata for just RM5 (like hot cakes!).

Their most popular dish is Nasi Goreng Daging. The meat is cooked into a serunding-like form before being fried together with the rice (which make for a quality meal for Shah Alam’s bargain hunters).

For those who prefer more ‘upmarket’ dishes, Unit 23’s newly added Salted Egg Butter Spaghetti with Beef will satisfy your tastebuds, for only RM15.

The exterior of the cafe is very homey. It feels like a genuine hangout place where you and your friends can just lie down and watch TV, like in someone’s living room. No, really, you can. They allow you to change channels and watch Youtube videos to your liking.

Unit 23 feels like a true 90s American garage lepak spot with the grungy, bluesy ambience created by the accompanying artwork and decorations.

Although the cafe needs a bit of work in my opinion, especially since they just opened their doors a couple of months ago, it’s a perfect spot to just have a short meeting, relax, listen to Ben E. King, and enjoy your chocolate shake while waiting to get your vape recoiled.

But all in all, Unit 23 stands tall amongst all the good cafes in Shah Alam – with great prices. Check them out if you’re around Section 9!
