Yes, it’s possible to make ice cream using just one ingredient (shut up!). And you don’t even need an ice-cream maker (no way!).
Don’t believe us and think we’re bonkers, or high on something? Then you’ve underestimated the wonders of the banana.
Yes, the banana – the single ingredient you need to make delicious, creamy, rich, silky, soft-serve style ice cream. (Additional dairy products, sweeteners and other ingredients can ‘talk to the hand’).
So what sorcery is this, you wonder?
It turns out that frozen bananas are good for more than just dipping in chocolate. If you freeze a banana until solid, then mush it up in a blender or food processor, it becomes creamy and gooey – just like good custard ice cream. Some may assume that a blended frozen banana would be flaky or tasteless, but no — it makes for delicious, creamy, rich ice cream. Voila – a healthy and insanely simple-to-make dessert!
(Some bananas, depending on their ripeness, have a bit of that ‘green’ aftertaste. You can experiment by adding in another ingredient or two, like a tablespoon of peanut butter and another of honey).
Here’s the simple how-to:
· Slice peeled bananas into small pieces.
· Store in freezer for 1-2 hours
· Blend, blend, blend
· Serve!
