Abusive bus driver caught on video to face ‘stern action’

Police report already lodged by passenger and transport commission urged public to speak up

SPAD

KUALA LUMPUR:
Stern and swift action will be taken against an express bus driver said to have abused a passenger while on a journey from Malacca to Penang on Tuesday, the land transport commission SPAD said.

The commission said it viewed the matter seriously and had been in contact with the passenger to record his statement.

“The passenger had filed a police report two days later, the commission said, and said it would provide the police with support and information about the driver and the express bus operator.

A one-minute video recording showing an express bus driver abusing a passenger has been widely spread online. The driver was said to be furious at the passenger for sleeping in a space provided for resting drivers.

The commission said “stern and swift action is taken against the irresponsible driver for the unacceptable conduct”.

It also expressed its regret to the passenger involved for the harrowing experience.

The commission reminded express bus operators to closely monitor and discipline their drivers to ensure that they were courteous and provide quality service to commuters at all times.

Members of the public who encountered “irresponsible drivers” were encouraged to lodge a report to the commision. “Additional forms of evidence such as audio or video recordings, or even witnesses contact detail will greatly enhance our ability to bring errant drivers to book,” it said.
