JOHOR BAHRU:
Malaysians may just be able to breathe a sigh of relief with the latest news on the two-year-old girl who was reported kidnapped but upon further investigation, was most likely sold by her father.

A Singapore couple, who has been caring for the child for over a month, had already initiated adoption proceedings with Singapore authorities but was willing to return the child to her relatives in Johor, according to a report by The Star Online today.

The return of the child was mediated by the Johor Temple Foundation adviser, Yap Yeen Min, who said that the toddler had been living with the couple, a senior executive officer and his wife, in Singapore.

Yap shared that the little girl was not mistreated and that the couple had cared for her, teaching her how to brush her teeth. They also potty-trained her. They are expected to make a statement to the police on Monday.

The toddler’s plight first made headlines when her father lodged a police report on December 10, claiming that his daughter was possibly kidnapped by a male friend after the latter took her on a walk… over a month ago.

The father, an odd job worker and alleged drug addict, was lodging at various budget hotels at the time, and said that the ‘kidnapper’ gave him a few thousand ringgit before leaving with his daughter in tow.
