The veteran leader said that just because others had hurled accusations at him or said nasty things about him, he would not stoop to their level as there was no point in talking about the mistakes some people had made in the past.
Mahathir said this in an exclusive interview with FMT yesterday when asked to comment on the remark by Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi that the current government should not be blamed for the high cost of living as it was merely cleaning-up the mess left behind by previous leaders.
“Well, that is his (Zahid’s) opinion,” he said. “He managed to become a minister because of me. If I want to tell old stories, it will turn ugly. I don’t like digging up dirt from the past.
“We all have committed sins, but some just don’t want to talk about it.”
Last week, Zahid said Prime Minister Najib Razak’s administration was not entirely to blame for the present rise in the cost of living because it had inherited “past shit” from previous governments.
Zahid added that while he had no intention of pointing fingers at any individual, he did want the people to know the truth behind skyrocketing prices in the country and for them to re-evaluate every accusation they had hurled at the government of the day.
