Coalition sets out formal code and mediation body to look into complaints and disputes

pakatan
SHAH ALAM: The Pakatan Harapan agreement to be signed today by the leaders of DAP, PKR and Parti Amanah Negara will set in stone a code of conduct for the opposition coaliton.

The agreement covers seven key areas:

  • Making joint decisions
  • Political unity
  • Resolving disputes
  • Common policies
  • Elections
  • Governance and Opposition
  • Validity of the pact

The code of conduct calls for all coalition decisions to be made by consensus by the presidential council comprising the leadership of each component party.

All disputes are to be resolved internally, and must first be raised by a component party. This means a component party must first decide if an individual member’s complaint is deemed worthy to be taken up by the coalition.

A mediation body comprising a experienced and well respected leader from each party will look into all complaints and disputes.

The mediation body, whose members are elected by the presidential council, will seek the fairest solution and make recommendations to the complaining party.

However, the final decision on its recommendations lies with the complaining party.

The presidential council will also decide on election strategy and disputes about seats.

As for the validity of the pact, the status of the pact or a component party which breaches the agreement will be decided by the other component parties and announced by the presidential council.

Various Pakatan Harapan leaders took turns to explain the concept and workings of the agreement, at a confrence on the issue at the Shah Alam Convention Centre.

The agrement will be signed by PKR president, Dr. Wan Azizah Ismail, DAP secretary-general, Lim Guan Eng and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu.
