The Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government (KPKT) minister said this at a press conference after a Majlis Mesra with KPKT staff, where he explained that enforcement at the PPR units was a top priority for his ministry this year.
He also said the PPRs were meant for low-income wage earners who were Malaysians, and not foreigners and that he had instructed his ministry’s enforcement unit to crackdown on irresponsible parties.
“Malaysians are sick of this problem and I am calling on all local councils to increase enforcement on this matter.
“Local councils must take action against Malaysians who misuse their PPRs.”
He said those caught flouting the rules would be asked to vacate the units which they rented.
The Kota Belud lawmaker said his ministry was also considering taking over the management of PPRs run by local councils as the latter had failed to check this abuse due to a lack of resources.
On a separate issue, Abdul Rahman called on local councils to be transparent with their funds and let the public know how much they had and how the funds were being utilised as this would help the public better understand the capabilities of each council.
It would also quell any suspicion the people might have on how taxpayers’ money was being spent, he said.
