Pokok Sena MP, Mahfuz Omar said this was necessary as parliamentary transformation would require amendments to the Parliament Act, which would take time to be approved.
“In order to have this transformation implemented by this March sitting, I hope Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Pandikar Amin Mulia will propose to the government to have a special meeting next month so that we can make the amendments,” he said.
Mahfuz, was commenting on Pandikar Amin’s statement on the proposed transformation including the creation of a Second Chamber which had been brought up to the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Transformation on Monday.
“Before the last sitting last year, Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Pandikar Amin Mulia had expressed a desire to see that the transformation is implemented at the first session this March,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kuala Selangor MP, Irmohizam Ibrahim, who was in agreement with Mahfuz, described the proposal as ‘historic’ if it could be realised.
He added that a Second Chamber would give MP’s the opportunity to raise certain issues, especially those involving policies, as well as receive feedback from the government.
Bakri MP, Er Teck Hwa also welcomed the proposal as it would be beneficial to all parties.
