In a press conference earlier today, Kedah Umno Deputy Chairman Ahmad Bashah Md Hanifah alleged that Mukhriz had failed to administer the state properly and should therefore be removed as MB.
In rebutting his allegations, Mukhriz said his appointment received the blessings of the Sultan after Prime Minister Najib Razak suggested him for the post.
“My position as the Menteri Besar was based on the mandate and trust given by the Rakyat, as well as the blessings of the Sultan of Kedah following the suggestion made by the Prime Minister.
“I leave it to the Rakyat to evaluate my work performance from the first day BN (Barisan Nasional) took over Kedah’s administration in the 13th General Election,” said Mukhriz in a statement issued this evening.
Mukhriz, who is the youngest son of former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, a relentless critic of Najib, also said he had helmed the state’s administration the best way he knew how to ensure peace and harmony among the people.
“At the end of the day, the Rakyat and the voters will be the ones to judge the capabilities of my administration.”
Ahmad Bashah had also accused Mukhriz of failing to unite Umno and to plan effectively for the 14th General Election.
