Mohd Zin Mustapa, vice-president of the Coalition of Branch Chiefs Malaysia said that they would proceed with the demonstration if Umno continued to stay silent in meting out punishment against the rebels, who have announced a lack of confidence in Mukhriz as Kedah menteri besar.
“If there is no further action, we will continue doing this until we are satisfied…possibly mass protests or burning of the Umno constitution,” he said after a meeting of Umno leaders at the Putra World Trade Centre yesterday.
“If this book can no longer be used, it is better we burn it,” he added.
He said it was unfair that members who called for the resignation of Umno president Najib Razak were punished, but members who instigated Mukhriz Mahathir’s ouster get off scot free.
“We were stripped of our titles as branch chiefs. In the same vein, we urge that the same action be taken against those who were part of the press conference that criticised Mukhriz,” Mohd Zin said.
The group had yet to reveal a time and place for the demonstration.
On Wednesday Kedah Umno’s deputy chairman Ahmad Bashar said 15 state divisional leaders were unhappy with Mukhriz’s leadership.
