PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Abu Kassim Mohamed may be looking at premature retirement such as in the case of former Attorney-General (AG) Gani Patail, wrote a blogger today.

Firdaus Abdullah, former political editor with the New Straits Times writing in apanama.my, said that a senior officer from the AG’s Chambers, dubbed “DZ” was touted to replace Abu Kassim.

Firdaus related speaking to a “long time journalist friend” who was at the press conference by AG Apandi Ali yesterday “absolving” Prime Minister Najib Razak of any wrongdoing in the RM2.6 billion donation controversy, who sighted “DZ” at the venue.

“She says rumour has it that this guy from the AG’s Chambers helped clear up the ‘2.6b’ and SRC mess and was promised the post in return for his professional favour in clearing the Prime Minister from baseless slander.

“It was kind of a national service for ‘DZ’ , Firdaus wrote.

News reports earlier this month stated Abu Kassim may be replaced soon, for health reasons.

The MACC however, issued a statement to counter those reports, saying Abu Kassim would complete his contract in 2018, while his mandatory retirement age was only in 2020.

The statement also said Abu Kassim “would not bow to pressure from any party” and would only retire of his own accord.
