KUALA LUMPUR:
An unemployed man was today sentenced to seven days’ jail and fined RM100, in default seven days’ jail, by the magistrate’s court here for stealing six cans of sardines.

Magistrate Saifulakmal Said handed down the sentence to Chng Kim Fatt, 45, as the man had 11 previous convictions that included vehicle theft, drug-related offences and hurting others.

Chng had stolen the six cans of sardines worth RM33.30 at the 99 Speed Mart Sdn Bhd in Jalan Utama Jinjang, Sentul, here at 8pm on Jan 30.

Chng was also sentenced to seven days’ jail after he failed to produce his identity card or any temporary identification document on the same day at the same location.

The court ordered the accused, who was unrepresented, to serve both sentences concurrently from the date of his arrest on Jan 30.
