KUALA LUMPUR:
Representatives of Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) will meet Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Jamil Khir Baharom today to discuss Lembaga Tabung Haji’s finances.

The meeting is expected to take place at 4pm at the Tabung Haji office in Kuala Lumpur.

Amanah Deputy President Salahuddin Ayub said in a media statement that his party felt responsible for “ensuring that the integrity of Tabung Haji’s administration is always at a reassuring level”.

“The main purpose of the meeting is for Amanah to listen, research, evaluate and get an explanation from TH,” he said, adding that the party had been getting information from other authorities and experts in corporate management to unravel the tangle around Tabung Haji.

Tabung Haji’s financial status came to the public’s notice following reports that Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) had warned it that its assets were insufficient to meet its liabilities.

Last week, the pilgrims fund’s CEO, Ismee Ismail, denied that its reserves were in the negative, saying BNM had not taken into account several of its assets.

He stated that the fund’s cash assets alone stood at RM10.7 billion on December 31, 2015.
