This query was posed by Amanah vice-chairman Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa to The Malaysian Insider today.
The Amanah leader insisted that the pilgrims fund should be transparent and disclose the sources for its dividend and bonus for the financial year ending 2015 (FYE2015).
In a statement today, TH announced a 5% dividend, totalling RM3.23 billion, and a 3% hajj bonus to maiden pilgrims for FYE2015.
Speaking to the news portal, Dr Mujahid suggested the fund explore other methods to subsidise hajj rates for Muslims instead of draining accumulated reserves.
He cautioned that TH ran the risk of needing to liquidate its assets if it continued to dip into reserves in order to sustain payouts to its over 8 million depositors.
Previously, Opposition MP Rafizi Ramli had demanded the resignation of Tabung Haji’s chairman Abdul Azeez Rahim for failure to fulfil fiduciary obligations to its depositors.
This was in response to a letter issued by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) Governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz cautioning TH that it had only 98 sen for each ringgit in liability.
