Bangladeshi held over rape of disabled girl

He is alleged to have had sex with 13-year-old victim on staircase of flats in Bayan Lepas, Penang.

PETALING JAYA: Penang police have detained a Bangladeshi worker for allegedly raping a disabled girl who is a minor at the flats in Bayan Lepas, Penang, today.

The alleged incident was witnessed by a security guard who later informed the victim’s father.

It is learnt that the father, together with several flat residents, assaulted the 38-year-old Bangladeshi before handing him over to the police.

Initial police checks showed that the suspect allegedly had “sex” with the 13-year-old victim on the flat staircase.

Some witnesses said that the Bangladeshi was “lucky” to have escaped severe injuries due to the timely arrival of the police at the scene to intervene and stop locals from assaulting him.

The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for statutory rape.

Balik Pulau police chief Supt Lai Fah Hin confirmed the case.
