PETALING JAYA:
Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan has questioned why the Wall Street Journal continued “to allow itself to be used as a willing vehicle by the Anti-Najib Campaign.”

In a statement today, the BN Strategic Communications Director said this was despite the newspaper “proven wrong time and time again.”

“That politically motivated campaign failed last year, and it won’t succeed now.

“In yet another attack full of inaccuracies, the WSJ claims that Saudi officials – who they do not name – have said that their finance and foreign ministers had no knowledge of the donation into the Prime Minister’s account,” he said in a statement today.

Rahman said this was despite the Saudi Foreign Minister himself publicly saying that the funds were sent to Prime Minister Najib Razak from Saudi Arabia.

This was also confirmed by Malaysia’s Attorney-General Mohamed Apandi Ali following an extensive investigation.

“Who should we believe? The Saudi Foreign Minister or these anonymous officials who, like almost every other source the Wall Street Journal quotes, are unnamed and unknown?

“This breaks every rule of journalism in the book. How do we know these people even exist?

“No doubt, the Wall Street Journal will continue to make other false allegations.

“However, as has been proven in this instance, I have confidence that the people will see through their lies.”

Earlier today, Malaysian state fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) also denied the WSJ allegations that it had paid funds into Najib’s personal accounts.

It said the WSJ report on the matter was an “outright lie”, based on “baseless and unproven” allegations.

WSJ finance editor Ken Brown told Australia’s ABC News a few days ago that the newspaper had documents showing the RM2.6 billion deposited into Najib’s accounts came from a bunch of companies and bank accounts related to 1MDB and were not a donation from Saudi Arabia.
