Malaysia shares its position with Liechtenstein and Slovenia, according to the Henley & Partners Visa Restrictions Index 2016, released on Wednesday. The index is produced in collaboration with the International Air Transport Association.
The Malay Mail Online reported however that this year’s position was a downgrade from last year’s ninth position.
We are also behind Singapore at fifth place, which tied with Japan and Austria this year.
Nevertheless, Malaysia remains one of the top five Asian passports to be accepted worldwide this year.
Top place went to Germany, having visa-free access to 177 places, followed by Sweden with 176.
Finland, France, Italy, Spain and Britain tied for third place with 175 while Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands and the United States ranked fourth.
The least accepted passports worldwide are Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq, with their holders granted visa-free access to only 25, 29 and 30 countries respectively.
