KUALA LUMPUR:
Putrajaya will not donate to bankrupts but will give them advice on financial management, said Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Najib (BN-Pekan) said this in response to Shamsul Iskandar (PKR – Bukit Katil) who raised the problem of bankruptcy.

During the Q&A session at the Dewan Rakyat today, Shamsul asked if the government would set up a “ fund” for bankrupts.

“We cannot give donations to those who are bankrupt. We can only give advice on financial management to the individuals and companies.”

However, he added, bodies established to take care of bankrupts would continue to do so and the banks too would consider helping them.

“Besides they (went bankrupt) not because they were careless but because of the unfavourable economic situation,” Najib said in the House today.
