In a brief statement posted on its official Facebook page, the science discovery centre said the jars were part of learning material used by a group of primary school students during Petrosains’ Mini Starlab Workshop, held earlier that day.
“The students were allowed to bring home the jars, which were fitted with batteries and LED lights to explain the constellation system, as a learning tool and as part of their overall workshop learning experience.
“It was regrettable that two of the jars were inadvertently left in the vicinity of Aquaria KLCC during the students’ subsequent visit to the attraction,” said the statement, adding that Petrosains and its management always prioritized safety measures for its visitors.
The two jars were found at the concourse level of the KLCC on Wednesday evening by a cleaner, who alerted the authorities.
A bomb scare ensued and police arrived at the scene with sniffer dogs and a Bomb Disposal Unit. The objects were destroyed using a robot about 8pm.
