Ministry answers queries on 1MDB funds in Cayman Islands
Finance Ministry says investment bankers not involved in the USD940 million there and that the sum will be used to settle the company’s debts, Parliament told.
The Finance Ministry said this in a written reply to Tony Pua (DAP-Petaling Jaya Utara) who asked if the remaining USD940 million in 1MDB funds (in the form of units) in the Cayman Islands was managed by an investment firm.
“1MDB’s investment was made through a fund that was registered at Cayman Islands. No investment bank had, or is still managing 1MDB’s investment balance in the fund,” said the reply.
Pua also asked if the investment was guaranteed by British Virgin Island firm Aabar Investment PJS Limited or Abu Dhabi firm Aabar Investment PJS.
The ministry however did not answer this particular question except to say the remainder of the funds had been earmarked to settle 1MDB’s debts.
