Khairuddin slams Shafee for defending AG

Former Umno man says Shafee Abdullah has no 'locus standi' on the matter of the Malaysian Bar filing a judicial review against the AG's decisions on the RM2.6 billion donation.

PETALING JAYA:
Former Umno member Khairuddin Abu Hassan has questioned why a prominent lawyer such as Muhammad Shafee Abdullah is so panicky over the Malaysian Bar’s filing of a judicial review against the Attorney-General’s (AG) decisions on investigations into Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Earlier in the week, the Malaysian Bar filed a judicial review against the decision by Mohamed Apandi Ali to clear Najib of any offence pertaining to the RM2.6 billion “donation” and the RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd that was deposited into his personal accounts. The AG also ordered that all further investigations into the matter be halted.

In a Facebook post, Khairuddin said Shafee, a veteran lawyer, who has in the past, represented the government, did not need to interfere in the Malaysian Bar’s filing of the judicial review.

He also said that while Shafee had a right to free speech, it was strange that the lawyer seemed hasty to come to Apandi Ali’s defence.

Khairuddin also said that unlike him, Shafee did not have any “locus standi” in the matter.

“I have ‘locus standi’ in this matter since December 12, 2014 when I lodged reports with the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) against 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Berhad) and Najib,” Khairuddin said, adding he had to face enormous pressure as a result of the reports including detention in Sg Buloh prison for five weeks.

Khairuddin however vowed to continue his fight and told Shafee that he and other Malaysians who fought against wrongdoings or abuses of power by civil servants did so because they held firm to the true teachings of Islam.

He said they would never allow anyone to be in collusion with the corrupt and their ways which could destroy race, religion and country.

Yesterday, Shafee labelled the Malaysian Bar a “busybody” for its attempt to seek a judicial review, saying the body had nothing to do with the investigation into the political donation.
