KUALA LUMPUR:
The Barisan Nasional’s attacks on Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng are politically motivated, Opposition leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said today.

She said the allegations against Lim were a counter-attack on Opposition MPs for questioning the 1MDB issue and RM2.6 billion donation scandals involving Prime Minister Najib Razak.

“It seems to be personal because when we talk about their scandals, certain individuals might get fired or get in trouble.

“I think they are targeting the Opposition because we constantly bring up these issues,” Wan Azizah told reporters outside Parliament today.

The Permatang Pauh MP said she was confident Lim would give his full cooperation to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and answer every allegation thrown at him.

Lim’s double-storey bungalow house in George Town was the subject of questions in Parliament last Thursday.

Shahbudin Yahaya (BN-Tasek Gelugor) questioned the purchase of the house for only RM2.8 million on Oct 25 last year, saying the price was below market value, pointing out that such houses were sold for RM6-RM6.5 million.

MACC has begun investigations after police reports were lodged, questioning the link between the purchase of the bungalow and the alleged sale of state land to a business associate of the house owner for a hospital and hotel project.

Lim has urged investigations to be speeded up so he could prove there was no corruption involved.
