At 9.03 am, the ringgit was quoted at 4.0255/0315 versus the US dollar from 3.9910/9960 at 5.00 pm on Wednesday.
A dealer said the local bourse fell sharply today on profit-taking.
Meanwhile, the greenback stood firm against other major currencies, ahead of economic indicators due later today. It includes the US durable goods orders and jobless claims data.
The ringgit also traded lower against other major currencies.
It slipped against the Singapore dollar to 2.9381/9442 from Wednesday’s 2.9236/9288 and weakened against the yen to 3.5706/5769 from 3.5485/5539.
The local unit fell against the British pound to 5.6731/6828 from 5.6608/6687 and slid against the euro to 4.4937/5020 from 4.4659/4731.
