PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said there was a poor turnout at yesterday’s rally, compared to street protests of the past.
“In terms of turnout it may have been a flop because PAS didn’t join. If PAS joined, turnout would have been huge,” he said, according to Malaysiakini.
The low number of Malay participants at last year’s Bersih 4 rally, in which PAS was absent, also showed the party’s ability to bring out its members, Tuan Ibrahim said. He had wanted to mobilise for Bersih, but party leader Abdul Hadi Awang had decided against it. “Less than 10 per cent (of the participants were Malays). Without PAS, the rally failed,” he said.
Yesterday a crowd estimated at 2,000-3,000 people gathered in central Kuala Lumpur for the protest, which was attended by Pakatan Harapan coalition partners, DAP, PKR and Amanah.
