 | April 5, 2016

His lawyer Lim Lip Eng cries foul over remand order, claiming his client was not questioned since he was detained on Monday.

Shazni-MunirPETALING JAYA: Amanah Youth vice-chief Shazni Munir has been remanded for two days beginning today, for allegedly uttering seditious remarks recently.

This has riled up his lawyer Lim Lip Eng, who questioned the reason for Shazni’s detention as he claims his client was not questioned by the police since he was detained on Monday.

“The police held him for one day without questioning him or recording his statement and has now put him under remand.

“This is ridiculous and reeks of power abuse by the police,” Lim told FMT.

Shazni was detained after he turned up at the Dang Wangi police headquarters on Monday afternoon, after being asked to do so.

He is being probed for sedition, as well as conducting activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy.

Shazni is alleged to have called through statements in social media, for the government to be toppled via “massive riots.”

He has however, denied issuing such statements.
