This follows the case of a housewife, Suhana Mohamad, 30, who was electrocuted at her home in Taman Desa Baiduri, Cheras, near here on April 15 after making a call on her mobile phone while the device was being recharged.
“Consumers are also advised to not use their mobile phones while they are being charged.
“This could endanger consumers. If the charger is damaged, it can cause electricity leakage,” the commission said in a statement today.
It also urged manufacturers, retailers and vendors to only sell Sirim-ST certified chargers.
Initial investigations by the Energy Commission showed that the charger used in the incident had burst into flames.
Suhana’s husband Raja Asri Raja Mat is a policeman with the Bukit Aman Special Branch Counter-Terrorism (E8) unit. He was sleeping during the incident, according to a report by The Star.
Kajang police deputy chief Supt Abdul Ghani Mohamad Ji said Suhana was pronounced dead on arrival.
