KUALA LUMPUR:
Former Opposition de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has been rushed to hospital due to high blood pressure, according to his lawyer, Sivarasa Rasiah.

“Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been rushed to the hospital due to unstable high blood pressure,” wrote Sivarasa in a Facebook post tonight.

“Let us pray for him.”

It was previously alleged by the Opposition that Anwar, who is currently serving a five-year jail sentence for sodomy at the Sungai Buloh prison, was not receiving sufficient medical attention, including for injuries sustained before imprisonment.

The Health Ministry has, however, said that Anwar had been assessed and treated by a panel of specialists.

The Home Ministry said that Anwar is given special concessions, including hot showers, a bed which fits the specifications of a high-end hospital to account for his bad back, and milk and cereal to meet his special dietary requirements.
