
He said there were bound to be disagreements between representatives but it was important that arguments be based on reason.
“I realise that in politics it is not possible for 100 per cent absolute agreement between reps.
“It is also affirmable that a check and balance system is required to protect the vested interests of the people.
“So please carry out your duty based on trust and put aside personal issues and political vendettas,” he said in his opening address at the fourth term of the 13th Penang Legislative Assembly.
Rahman advised the elected representatives to come up with quality, intelligent debates.
“All matters that are to be debated must be presented intelligently, not emotionally without ethics,” he added.
The Assembly reconvenes on Friday.
