KUALA LUMPUR:
The Auditor-General’s (A-G) report on 1MDB will remain an official secret until the Cabinet decides otherwise, the Public Accounts Committee’s (PAC) chairman Hasan Arifin said.

“The Cabinet will decide when it is no longer classified under the Official Secrets Act (OSA).

“The annual AG’s Report is a requirement under the Constitution, to be presented in the Parliament, but the report on 1MDB was requested by the Cabinet to be tabled to PAC, Hasan said, explaining the difference between the AG’s report on 1MDB with the AG’s 2015 Report tabled in the Dewan Rakyat today.

“We will ask the Cabinet to make a decision soon,” Hasan told reporters at a press conference held at the Parliament lobby here.

Opposition leaders including DAP lawmaker Tony Pua have repeatedly urged the government to declassify the A-G’s report on 1MDB following what they claimed was a flawed presentation of the PAC findings on 1MDB.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Azalina Othman Said, however, said the report is still under the OSA  to ensure no leak of information throughout the PAC proceedings.

“The Auditor-General’s report on 1MDB was specifically meant for PAC,” she stressed in a parliamentary reply.

The multi-agency probe on 1MDB began last year when allegations of embezzlement and financial mismanagement came to light following reports by whistleblower website Sarawak Report and international news agency, Wall Street Journal.
