He was responding to Umno Secretary-General Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor’s statement that the party would possibly take action against him.
The suspended deputy president said technically he should have been given a show-cause letter detailing the basis of the accusation levelled against him.
Muhyiddin also pointed out that he should then be given time to address the allegations and defend himself.
“However, based on the Umno secretary-general’s statement, all these procedures were not observed by the disciplinary board,” he said, adding that Tengku Adnan’s remarks were “dubious” as he had not been directly informed about it.
The Pagoh lawmaker said this in a statement which he uploaded on his Facebook page.
Tengku Adnan had two days ago said Muhyiddin and former Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir might be booted out from Umno for taking part in the “Save Malaysia” movement alongside Opposition politicians.
The disciplinary board, he revealed, had already completed the report on the duo and would table it at the supreme council meeting to decide their fate.
Muhyiddin, who claimed to have played a role in setting up the Umno disciplinary board, pointed out that the formation of the independent board was based on the principle that those brought to face the board would receive fair treatment.
He added that members should also be accorded the right to defend themselves in line with the principles of natural justice.
“I urge the Umno disciplinary board to explain the actual position of the said report against me as stated by the Umno secretary-general. I reserve the right to know the basis for the accusation against me and defend myself before any action is taken.”
