Sacking Umno rebels not a top priority, says Annuar Musa

Umno leader says party's Supreme Council members can call for the sacking of Muhyiddin and Mukhriz but any decision has to be collective.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Umno Information Chief Annuar Musa said today the sacking of Umno rebels Muhyiddin Yassin and Mukhriz Mahathir will not be the top priority at the party’s upcoming Supreme Council meeting.

This is despite Umno Supreme Council members Nazri Aziz and Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor’s plans to propose that the party’s suspended deputy president, Muhyiddin, and former Kedah Menteri Besar, Mukhriz, be sacked from the party for working alongside the Opposition to oust party president Najib Razak.

“The sacking of Muhyiddin and Mukhriz is not the main item that will be discussed at the meeting.

“Personally, I don’t think that it is a pressing matter even though we understand that there has been an obvious breach of party discipline,” Annuar told reporters at the Parliament lobby here.

The next Supreme Council meeting is expected to take place before June 7 when the fasting month begins.

Annuar said although any council member could raise the issue, the final decision must be made collectively.

“To me there is no need to raise such speculation. What they (the rebels) have done is not urgent for the party to take any action for now.

“As a political party we have to admit that there are always internal problems but they will not necessarily affect us. We will look at each problem case by case.”

Muhyiddin and Muhkriz have been heavily criticised by Umno members for allegedly tarnishing the image of the party and trying to force Najib to resign as prime minister.

Muhyiddin was dropped from his ministerial posts during last year’s Cabinet reshuffle, and suspended as the party deputy president, while Mukhriz was removed from his Menteri Besar post.
