This was stated by Opposition leader Wan Azizah Wan Ismail today at the Parliament lobby.
She said the meeting was cancelled because “we have other things in mind, and other programmes, too”.
PKR and PAS have been involved in a tussle over who should contest in the upcoming by-elections in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar.
PKR is trying to avoid a three-cornered fight with BN, with PKR contesting in Sungai Besar and PAS given the leeway to contest in Kuala Kangsar.
Wan Azizah said PH had held two internal meetings so far and was still awaiting the response from PAS on the matter.
PKR Vice-President Rafizi Ramli said both PH and PAS should have an understanding to contest one seat each.
“We need to have Pakatan Harapan and PAS working side by side. If there is disagreement on certain things, that does not mean we oppose each other,” clarified Rafizi outside the Parliament lobby.
“The best strategy is one seat for PAS and the other for Pakatan Harapan.
“That is also what it should be in the next general election.”
Meanwhile, PKR’s Bukit Katil MP Shamsul Iskandar Akin said the party will discuss with PAS on contesting the two seats as whoever contested in a certain area had the right to contest again there.
“That’s why we need to negotiate. They (PAS) have the right to say: ‘I want to contest because I have contested here before’. To me, that’s a fair statement.”
PAS had contested in both seats in previous general elections.
