BUKIT MERTAJAM:
A man, who was believed to have repeatedly posed either as a Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) or the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) worker before robbing elderly victims, was arrested in Kubang Semang here today.

Seberang Perai Tengah District police chief ACP Rusli Mohd Noor said the suspect, a married 29-year-old man, was arrested in a 4am raid on his house.

“During the arrest, police also seized a mobile phone and a medical card bearing the TNB logo believed to be used by the suspect in his modus operandi,” he said here today.

He said initial investigations found that the modus operandi of the unemployed man was to pose as a TNB or PBAPP employee who came to the victim’s house, most of whom were elderly women, to change their electricity or water meter before robbing them.

Police believe they have solved at least 12 robbery cases in the district with the arrest of the man.

“The suspect has been remanded for six days to facilitate investigations,” Rusli said, adding that the public, especially the elderly who live alone were advised to be wary of strangers coming to their house.
