Federal Territories Deputy Minister Loga Bala Mohan said the operation was headed by the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) and DBKL had merely provided assistance.
“The operation on May 22 was Ops Selamat which was headed by AADK Dang Wangi, Kuala Lumpur.
“DBKL was requested to supply logistics support. So we provided two lorries and officers from our Bukit Bintang branch for that operation,” he said during a press conference at Kompleks Dayabumi here.
Loga was responding to recent allegations that DBKL had rounded up the homeless in Kuala Lumpur, and then dropped them off at distant locations such as Rawang and along the Karak Highway.
Loga said the public should find out the truth first, before lashing out and hurling accusations at DBKL
He added that DBKL had no reason to evict the homeless, as they had prepared transit centres for them in Kuala Lumpur.
“There is no excuse for us to round them up and leave them at the side of the road. This is a misunderstanding. Don’t accuse and blame DBKL just because our lorries were present.
“We were told to prepare lorries and officers. DBKL does not have the jurisdiction to take action against the homeless, drug addicts and beggars.”
Meanwhile, Loga said AADK should explain the motive of their operation instead.
“The public should ask AADK. For us over in DBKL, we actually don’t know what’s the main reason.”
Recently, a group of homeless people claimed that they were rounded up by DBKL and left at several locations far from the city.
They claimed that they were left in several places such as Rawang and the Karak highway.
