KUALA LUMPUR: There have been no orders from the prosecutor on whether to press charges against two men who allegedly insulted Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, the Tengku Mahkota Johor, on social media.

Lawyer Faiz Fadzli Noor said there have been no directions to charge Mahsyur Abdullah and Aiden Chew under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

“I met Aiden on Thursday. His remand will end tomorrow (June 4),” said Faiz.

The lawyer added that it would be “unnecessary” to press charges against both men. “There are no criminal implications in their social media postings.”

“Tunku Mahkota has also reminded the police not to arrest anyone who commented against him,” he said. “If the police respect the Tengku Mahkota, all detainees should be freed.”

Last week, Johor police detained a man in Dengkil over his Facebook posting that allegedly insulted Tunku Ismail.

A Twitter user, Mashyur Abdullah, was also arrested last week for posting disparaging comments on him.

He was later released.

Tunku Ismail himself posted a “doctored” picture in Facebook. He was seen in the picture “eating” an elephant. The picture was posted after the Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) football club defeated Pahang 6-0 in the Super League match.
