ALOR STAR:
More than 200 operators of entertainment centres in Kedah have appealed to the state government to relax a ruling that they close for the whole fasting month of Ramadan, saying this will incur losses amounting to millions of ringgit.

Kedah Gerakan Chairman Dr Cheah Soon Hai, speaking on their behalf, said State Secretary Bakar Din and Local Government Committee Chairman Badrol Hisham Hashim had agreed to their suggestion to close at night on Thursdays and Fridays and operate as usual on the other days.

He said the police had issued an order for the premises to close for the whole month of Ramadan.

“The police conducted an inspection of the premises in Alor Star, Sungai Petani and Kulim and issued an order for the premises to close,” he said, adding that this would cause the operators to lose millions of ringgit in income.

He also said that Muslims would not be allowed to enter the premises during Ramadan.
