PETALING JAYA; The arrest of Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC) is clearly a case of political harassment of the highest degree by the federal agency of the state authority, Dapsy chief Wong Kah Woh said.
“This politically-motivated act by SPRM (Malay acronym for MACC) is uncalled for, with the chief minister having completed a 10-hour session of statement-recording at SPRM Penang on May 7.
“Why is there a need for the arrest of the chief minister when there is no further evidence to be adduced?
“This move is clearly a case of the SPRM being instrumentalised by (Prime Minister) Najib (Razak) to silence his political adversary.
“It is absolutely nonsensical and reeks of BN and Umno’s characteristic political scheming.”
Wong said Dapsy stood firmly behind the chief minister, who is also DAP secretary-general, in the battles ahead.
“This is another case of selective persecution by the prosecution, SPRM, with malicious intent to politically assasinate Lim Guan Eng, not to mention an attempt to bring down the democratically-elected Penang Government.”
