Batu Pahat Police Chief ACP Abdul Wahib Musa said the incident occurred around 10pm after the businessman, known only as Cheng, 40, and his helper closed and left his minimarket in Semerah for the day.
“The victim and his helper were travelling in a Mitsubishi Triton and were believed to have been tailed by the two men in a Perodua Myvi car.
“As they reached home, one of the two men suddenly fired several shots at the victim who was still in his pickup,” he told Bernama when contacted here today.
Abdul Wahib said Cheng, however, managed to reverse his pickup causing it to crash into the assailants’ car.
Shocked by the impact of the crash, the two men quickly fled the scene.
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
