The Perkasa president declined to mention which party he would be joining.
“I have been party-less since Umno. As a politician, I need a party. “Maybe I will pick a party when the Dewan Rakyat is dissolved, or maybe I will decide on nomination day,” he told reporters at the Perkasa headquarters, here, today.
Ibrahim also confirmed that he had been approached by several party leaders who offered him positions in their respective parties.
He stated that a decision could not be made if the political situation in the country remains unstable.
“When I was not part of any political party, I could develop Perkasa. And my assumption was right. After eight years, Perkasa is now strong with a nationwide network and hundreds of thousands of members.”
Ibrahim is also convinced that Perkasa will not fall when he decides to join a political party as he believes that he has trained well several leaders under him.
“When I join a political party, I’ll do so for religion and country.
“Names and positions are attractive, but in the end, it is the leadership that is important.”
Previously, Ibrahim won the Pasir Mas parliamentary constituency in Kelantan under Barisan Nasional.
He then followed Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah when the latter formed Semangat 46.
Returning to Umno after that, Ibrahim was however later sacked from the party and became an independent politician.
He was also aligned to PAS at one time, winning the Pasir Mas seat on the Islamist party’s ticket in 2008.
In 2013, Ibrahim Ali went back to becoming an independent candidate. However, he lost in the General Election to Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz from PAS.
