KUALA LUMPUR:
DAP lawmaker Nga Kor Ming was grilled for over two hours by Bukit Aman federal police today over an allegedly inflammatory Hari Raya cartoon he was accused of publishing on Facebook.

The Taiping MP was accompanied by his lawyer, fellow DAP MP Gobind Singh Deo.

They went into the police headquarters shortly after 2pm and came out a little after 4pm.

Present to provide moral support for Nga were Seputeh and Segambut MPs Teresa Kok and Lim Lip Eng respectively.

Speaking to reporters afterwards, Nga said he was informed that police had opened two investigation papers against him.

“They said I’m being investigated under the Sedition Act and Section 298 of the Penal Code.

“Section 298 provides for the offence of ‘uttering words, among others with deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings of any person’.”

On July 6, Nga allegedly uploaded a cartoon which likened duit Raya to bribes and “dedak” (animal feed).

The use of “dedak” was popularised by former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad and picked up by Opposition supporters. It is used for those who receive government or political handouts.

The Facebook posting was said to have infuriated many quarters and also led to a heated protest by Umno Youth in front of DAP’s headquarters last week.

Reiterating his claim that the posts were not uploaded by him, Nga urged the public to let police carry out their investigations.

“They asked whatever is necessary. I gave them my full cooperation.

“Not my Facebook. Let the police investigate.”
