Marching from the Simpang Lima Mosque at Jalan Macalister, the group of 20 people arrived at the state government offices in Komtar at 2.30pm today, holding placards that read “LGExit” (Exit, Lim Guan Eng), among others.
Its spokesperson, Arshad Kassim, said Lim need not call for snap polls when there were capable successors — the two deputy chief ministers — to take over if Lim was jailed.
“Why drag Penangites into your problems? Why can’t you let the courts decide if you are innocent?
“There are more important things at hand.
“Our kampungs are getting flooded and looks like the whole island is going to be flooded.
“If you say it is not about you, then why don’t you let one of your deputy chief ministers, one who is Malay and the other Indian, to take your place?” he told curious passers-by through a portable speaker at the entrance of the state government offices in Komtar.
Penang government security personnel shuttered the entrances to prevent anything untoward happening as a result of the protest.
Later, the group handed a two-page memorandum to government information officer Zainulfaqar Yaacob.
In the “memorandum”, one page read “SILA LETAK JAWATAN” and another read “PLEASE RESIGN” — typed out in large font.
