PETALING JAYA:
Umno Youth deputy chief Khairul Azwan Harun maintains the police report he lodged against three leading public figures in the country was not baseless in any way.

However when questioned on the basis for the police report he lodged, Khairul refused to elaborate other than to repeat the mantra: “Refer to the police report.”

In the police report Khairul lodged at the Dang Wangi police headquarters on July 26, he alleged that former Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail and former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Abu Kassim Mohamed “had on their own, or jointly, taken part in a conspiracy to topple Najib and the Malaysian Government.”

He claimed that the three were suspected of providing confidential information to foreign agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States, without prior permission.

At a press conference held today, Khairul said his intention to lodge the police report was merely to uphold Najib Razak’s position as Prime Minister and chief of Umno/Barisan Nasional.

“If you attack Najib Razak, you attack Umno and BN. We will rise to defend (the party and ruling coalition) at all costs,” Khairul told reporters.

“I have done the necessary. I made the police report on my own initiative.”

When asked how he intended to defend Najib, Khairul merely said: “Terserah…” (That depends).

When quizzed on allegations that his police report was false, Khairul said: “It was not a false police report. It was a police report.”

Khairul also claimed to have succeeded in foiling an attempt to overthrow Najib, but would not elaborate on his statement, beyond saying repeatedly: “Refer to the police report.”

He however did say he was given to understand that Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar would not take action against him.

“The important thing is that I have done my duty.”
