KUALA TERENGGANU:
Kijal assemblyman Ahmad Said has denied a media report today that he will be cooperating with PAS if Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman refuses to step down as menteri besar.

Ahmad Said said he was still an Umno member and had never said such a thing, while adding that the report was a fabrication.

He said this when contacted by Bernama here, today.

Utusan Malaysia today reported that Ahmad Said had demanded Ahmad Razif step down failing which he would take measures that would change the political scenario in the state.

The report quoted the former Terengganu menteri besar, who was also Ahmad Razif’s predecessor, as saying that if his demands were not met, he did not rule out the possibility of leaving Umno and cooperating with PAS to form a new government in the state.

Meanwhile, Terengganu PAS commissioner Satiful Bahri Mamat also denied that PAS had offered to cooperate with Ahmad Said, saying that Terengganu PAS had no intention to interfere with Umno’s internal problems.

“What we want is only that this political crisis be solved immediately. The problem will not be settled if both sides only respond to media statements,” he said.

Satiful Bahri said if the crisis was prolonged, it would be better if power was given back to the people through an election.

“If two state assemblymen jump party, only then a state election can be held, but if there are none, this problem will not be over,” he said.

In the last General Election, Terengganu Umno formed the state government with a slim majority of two seats, with Umno having won 17, PAS (14) and PKR (one).

The crisis erupted after Ahmad Said and Ahmad Razif could not see eye-to-eye on several issues.
